AGPI begins collaboration with global short-term rental association

The Association of Property Owners of Romania (AGPI) is pleased to announce that it has entered into contact with the Spanish Federation of Associations of Vacation and Temporary Rental Homes (FAPAVAT). Through this newly launched partnership, AGPI intends to draw on FAPAVAT’s extensive expertise in short-term rental regulation, especially in challenging markets such as the Canary Islands.

Why FAPAVAT and what it means for Romanian owners

FAPAVAT gathers regional and local associations of vacation home owners across Spain, with a mission to defend small owners, promote best practices, and engage in constructive dialogue with regulators.

For Romanian short-term rental owners, cooperation with FAPAVAT brings:

• access to real-world examples from a country with mature regulatory experience;

• early insight into how regulatory frameworks evolve, enabling proactive adaptation;

• an international dimension to Romanian owners’ interests, enhancing lobbying strength.

A “win” from the start

Even though no major joint programs exist yet, initiating this cooperation already represents a strategic victory:

• AGPI shows its strategic vision and international reach;

• sends a strong message to national regulators that short-term rental owners are organized, informed and connected globally;

• gives Romanian owners an early-warning system about regulatory pressures, such as housing conversion policies, tax hikes, licensing complexity etc.

What’s next

• Formalising the partnership with FAPAVAT and identifying practical collaboration topics: study sharing, workshops, common campaigns.

• Giving Romanian owners access to an international network of short-term rental associations, where FAPAVAT’s and other associations’ experiences are leveraged.

• Regular updates to AGPI members on international lessons and upcoming regulatory trends.
